Harvey & Stigley

Harvey & Stigley was originally formed in 1955. It has since traded for over 50 years as a traditional joinery company, securing a reputation with its customers for quality workmanship and friendly service.

Since 2005 Harvey & Stigley has come under new ownership and our goal is to modernise the business while maintaining all the traditional values that have ensured its success so far. To date this modernisation program has included:

• shifting to larger more modern premises to enable expansion and to provide a more pleasant working environment for our staff;
• an investment in new machinery to enable a more efficient production line while maintaining a quality product;
• an investment in technology, enabling us to conduct business electronically;
• new staff, with a focus on traditional skill levels rather than the ability to operation mass production machinery.

Already these changes have resulted in an increase in our sales volumes. As we grow we recognise the need to continue to focus on our core values and the fundamental aspects of our business.

We feel that traditional joinery is a dying art and many joinery factories are moving towards mass production. Although this may allow cost reduction for template items it often comes at the expense of quality, customer choice and individual service. We view Harvey & Stigley as a boutique joinery business producing top quality designer joinery items with a focus on these core values.

Whilst our aim is to invest in infrastructure to improve efficiency, we have been careful to remember the people behind the machinery. When employing our staff members we have been very particular about the skills we have taken on and have often had to wait some time for the right person able to cater to our target markets. We also have a training scheme for our young joiners who show potential, to ensure there is a continued skill base coming through for the business.

A focus on our internal business systems has again improved efficiency and ensured a quality product is delivered to our customers. It has also allowed us to conduct business electronically and improved on the reporting information not only internally but also for our customers should they need it.

There is still much work to do but we feel we have a very sound reputation and have a will, energy and the resources to achieve our aims. It is with this in mind that Harvey & Stigley will continue to achieve success and grow our business based on reputation, trust and the sound relationships we build.
